I am very new to boating so please forgive me. What the type of boat called that has 3 "tubes" under its deck? What about a boat with 2 "tubes"? What's the purpose of the extra tube?

No worries Ian! We all got to start somewhere. The traditional pontoon boat has two floatation devices (i.e. "tubes") underneath its deck. These tubes provide the buoyancy necessary to float the boat. Boats that contain a third tube are called tritoons. This third tube increases stability, allows to higher horsepower outboard engines, and increases weight capacity.
