What is the best all around pontoon boat anchor? I am looking for an anchor that works well in all bottoms (rocky, muddy, grassy, etc.). Also, what size line should I be using? I recently purchased a pontoon boat and want to make sure I have all my bases covered.
The best all around pontoon boat anchor is the box anchor. Box anchors are best for muddy or vegetative bottoms like found in lakes and rivers (where you find most pontoon boats). We recommend nylon rope (common, elastic, sinks, good strength) either twisted or braided. For line size and length see the rules of thumb below.
1/8" diameter per 9' of boat
8' of rope per 1' of anchor depth
24' pontoon boat in 5' of water = 40' of 3/8" nylon rope
