Pontoon Boats for Oceans – Going Beyond the Limits

June 5, 2017 by Dan

With tremendous success and popularity, pontoon boats have served a lot of services from cruising, water skiing, wakeboarding and sunning platform to activities like fishing and even have been used for commercial uses. However, is this light aluminum boat strong enough to withstand the wild roaring ocean which show no mercy and spit out fast currents and waves on everything that crosses its path?

Talking about performance of these pontoon boats, well they leave nothing behind. The big heavy-duty boats like the tri-toon have the capability to easily cross speeds of 50 mph. The V-hull provides enhanced stability thus the handling is easy even at higher speeds. The powerful motor to 300 horsepower provides enough forward thrust to push the pontoon ahead in the strong currents. The Sunbrellas and other gadgets make the journey much relaxing. Thus taking an overlook on the pontoon shows as if it has been designed for ocean travels. However taking a pontoon in the open ocean can be one of the worst ideas ever and can turn out as your worst nightmare. These cruising pontoon boats are designed to hit on calm water, rivers and other small water channels. They don’t have the power to overcome the powerful ocean waves. Large rolling waves can easily wash the deck and can destroy the underside of the deck as the boat swings with the waves thus resulting in detrimental consequences. The fence of the pontoon can act as a sail in strong winds which can make the boat go out of control making it harder for the passengers to anchor the pontoon. It is better to enjoy the day in shallows rather than going into the ocean where no prediction can be made of what kind of weather conditions you will be facing.

An idea might hit the mind to get a pontoon boat for ocean and fish in the gigantic ocean but this idea may prove to be disastrous. Pontoons are not designed for fishing on a large scale. They just offer you the experience of catching a few fish and roasting them on your barbeque gadget. Since pontoon are not very well equipped with all the accessories which are necessary for massive fishing, pontoon are not a good alternative for fishing in the oceans. Pontoon boats for ocean for instance lack the road holders since these boats do not have the gunwales. On a whole, they can be of slight use in fresh water, but fails to deliver output in salt waters.

Going out in a lack or a water source in the luxurious pontoon for some enjoyment you with family sounds relaxing, but taking the pontoon in the wild ocean can leave fatal consequences. Thus it is better to enjoy in such water for which these luxuries have been designed and one should avoid challenging the ocean for his own safety.
